It was the year 1970 when a set of entrepreneurs decided to form an elite club in Paris. French capital. Guy Crescent and Pierre-Etienne Guyot chose to merge their newly formed side, Paris Football Club, with Stade Saint-Germain of Henri Patrelle after the team from Saint-Germain-en-Laye, 15km west of Paris, were promoted to Ligue 2. Real Madrid played a big influence in the creation of Paris Saint-Germain. Three men were unable to come up in the dilemma of financial viability of the idea until they had a meeting with President of the Real club Santiago Bernabeu.

Bernabeu advised them that launching an online campaign was the best way for establishing the new team. After the petition signed by more than 20,000 members, Paris Saint-Germain Football Club was officially established on the 12th of August, 1970. The first time ever that has happened in French the history of football, fans were financially involved in the creation of the football club. The capital club that was formed had large fan bases due to the merger, and also benefited greatly from a reformed squad. The team was led by Jean Djorkaeff, the club's first starplayer, PSG was promoted into Division 1 and won in 1970 and 1971 the French Division 2 title in the debut season. After a tense financial position and a tense financial situation, it was the Paris City Council offered to take care of the club's debt and then demanded to change their name to a name more Parisian title which was "Paris Football Club." Following PSG President Henri Patrelle refused the name change, and the financial support was cut off and the club broke up in 1972. Paris FC remained in the top division, while PSG were relegated administratively to Division 3.

PSG was launched after the fashion creator Daniel Hechter took over. In the days before the start of the 1973-74 season, Hechter replaced Henri Patrelle as president and appointed Francis Borelli as vice-president. Alongside providing financial assistance towards the football club Hechter was also the designer of PSG's iconic home outfit. After two promotions with French famous legend Just Fontaine, Paris Saint-Germain quickly returned to the top division in 1974. Ironically, it happened in the same year that Paris FC slipped into the division below, and was moved to the Parc des Princes, which at the time had been the home ground of PFC. Since the time, PSG have never abandoned the top division of French football, nor the Parc. Prior to this, PSG had been playing at various grounds, such as those at the Stade Municipal Georges Lefevre, the Stade Jean-Bouin and Stade Jean-Bouin, Stade Bauer, and even the Parc des Princes several times throughout the season, despite resistance of PFC.

The team was headed by Daniel Hechter, the Parisians did not win any silverware during the 1970s, but they began their long tradition of spectacular Coupe de France runs, and established themselves as a top-half squad in Division 1,, and attracted a number of famous players, like Jean-Pierre Dogliani Mustapha Dahleb, and Carlos Bianchi. Following Hechter was barred for life from playing football in 1978 by the French Football Federation in January 1978 for his involvement in an unsavory scheme that involved tickets sold at Parc Des Princes Francis Borelli, who was vice-president up until that point was named the new manager for the Ile-de-France club. The trophy cabinet of the club welcomed the first significant silverware trophy with the assistance of superstar signings Joel Bats, Dominique Bathenay, Safet Susic and Dominique Rocheteau along with PSG Academy graduate Luis Fernandez who guided the capital team into two straight French Cup titles in 1982 and 1983. These wins have opened Paris the door to Europe with their spectacular European debut at the Champions' European Cup Trophy, which saw them advance to the quarterfinals of the competition. PSG was the first team to win its league title in the year 1986. The team was led by Susic Joel Bats, Luis Fernandez and Dominique Rocheteau and Luis Fernandez, the Red and Blues dominated the championship from beginning to end with a remarkable 26 games without losing to win the championship.

The sequel to the league title wasn't as glistening, however. PSG placed 7th in 1987-87 French Division 1 and their first UEFA Champions League appearance that season was a complete disaster. They were eliminated by the minnows Vitkovice in the opening game of the 1986-87 European Cup. The next season, PSG avoided relegation on the final game of the 1987-88 campaign with an impressive 4-1 victory over Lens in the Parc of Princes. Indebted to the club, PSG had a brief respite to fight for the title of 1988-89 together with Marseille before slipping to decline.
